Prop Firm Automation and Copy-Trading Rules Database

A dated, source-linked method for checking automation, copy trading, hosting, and account-stage rules without mistaking broker connectivity for firm permission.

Which prop firms allow automation or copy trading?

There is no durable firm-wide answer: the official policy, account stage, platform, ownership pattern, strategy behavior, and deployment method must all be checked together.

As of August 30, 2026, official pages show materially different approaches. Topstep documents custom bots through TopstepX API access but separately states that ProjectX API automation is prohibited in its Live Funded Account. My Funded Futures says copy trading is available across account types while its fair-play page restricts high-frequency behavior, simulated-fill exploitation, certain news trading, collaborative trading, and hedging. Earn2Trade says trade copiers are not allowed in any program, including LiveSim and live accounts.

Apex and Tradeify also publish official prohibited-activity, trader-guideline, and group-trading pages. Those pages must be read directly for the precise account being configured. This database deliberately avoids converting a page title, a platform login, or another trader's experience into a blanket verdict.

What should a usable rules database record?

Record atomic permissions and restrictions for every account stage and workflow, not a single allowed-or-banned label.

A useful record separates automated strategy execution, same-owner copying, copying another person, opposite-direction trading, hedging, news windows, maximum size, drawdown method, hosting location, API route, device sharing, order frequency, and prohibited simulated-market exploitation. Each field needs a stage, source URL, quoted or carefully summarized rule, verification date, reviewer, and unresolved-question flag.

Keep a technical status beside, but never inside, the policy status. For example, ProjectX or Rithmic may be connected and healthy while the policy gate remains denied or pending. That separation prevents an engineer from treating a green socket as authorization.

  • Use values such as allowed, prohibited, conditional, and needs written confirmation.
  • Attach every conclusion to one official source and one account stage.
  • Expire policy records on a short review interval rather than assuming permanence.
  • Block orders when a required field is unknown, stale, or internally inconsistent.

What if official pages appear to conflict?

Treat the conflict as a stop condition and ask the firm for written, account-specific clarification.

Different pages can discuss different products. A platform API article may explain what software can do, while a funded-account article limits where that API may be used. A copy-trading page may permit same-owner replication, while a fair-play page prohibits collaboration, hedging, abusive fills, or another trader's signals. These statements are not interchangeable.

Send support a concrete scenario: account program and stage, legal owner, leader and follower relationship, platform, API or copier, local or remote deployment, markets, expected order rate, news behavior, and risk controls. Preserve the response with the source snapshot. A generic yes from a forum, affiliate, or software vendor is not controlling policy evidence.

Prefer the narrow reading

Until the firm resolves a conflict, apply the more restrictive interpretation and keep automated order entry off.

How do you turn policy research into automation controls?

Convert every verified condition into a pre-trade gate, runtime monitor, or human approval rather than relying on memory.

A policy-aware launcher should verify rule freshness, account stage, enabled strategy, deployment location, leader ownership, follower count, contract mapping, news state, current drawdown buffer, maximum size, and daily loss budget. A mismatch should fail closed. The system should log both the intended order and the policy version that permitted or rejected it.

Runtime controls need duplicate suppression, stale-signal rejection, bounded retries, rate limits, per-account sizing, reconciliation, emergency flattening, and a kill switch. These controls reduce operational error; they do not make a prohibited strategy permissible. Re-run approval after an account moves stages because the rule set, credentials, and capital model may all change.

  1. 1

    Map

Translate each official rule into a testable condition with an owner.

  2. 2

    Gate

Require all mandatory conditions to pass before an order can leave the system.

  3. 3

    Observe

Alert on drift, rejects, partial fills, duplicate exposure, and stale reviews.

  4. 4

    Reconcile

Compare intended and actual positions, then stop safely when they diverge.

Does prop-firm automation and copy trading change by account stage?

Yes. Treat evaluation, funded or simulated-funded, and live accounts as separate policy environments; approval in one stage does not carry into another.

Program labels are not standardized. An evaluation or challenge normally tests eligibility under simulated conditions. A funded, express, performance, or LiveSim account may still be simulated while adding conduct, consistency, or withdrawal rules. A live account routes real capital and can add broker, exchange, infrastructure, and risk-team requirements. Confirm what the firm means by each label before enabling an algorithm.

For prop-firm automation and copy trading, build a stage-specific rule record rather than one firm-wide yes-or-no flag. The notes below are a verification map, not permission, legal advice, or a substitute for the controlling agreement.

Stage controls to verify for prop-firm automation and copy trading
Account stageWorking assumptionRequired action
Evaluation / challengeDo not assume simulation makes bots or copiers permissible; evaluation conduct rules still control.Verify the current evaluation rules before the first automated order.
Funded / simulated-fundedRe-read the funded or simulated-funded terms because copying, consistency, and withdrawal conditions may differ.Re-check activation terms, conduct rules, and account-specific limits.
Live / real-capitalApply the live-account policy plus broker, exchange, infrastructure, and real-capital risk requirements.Obtain live-stage confirmation and apply broker and exchange controls.

Connectivity is not consent

A login, API key, data connection, order route, or successful test order proves only technical connectivity. Technical connectivity is never permission to automate, copy, host, or trade a particular account stage.

How should you verify prop-firm automation and copy trading before launch?

Re-open the controlling official pages and account agreement immediately before launch; this article was verified on 2026-08-30.

The official materials reviewed for this guide were TopstepX API Access, Topstep Live Funded Account Parameters, Apex Prohibited Activities, MFFU Fair Play and Copy Trading, Tradeify Guidelines and Group Trading, Earn2Trade Trade Copier Policy. Help-center text, account products, platform access, and enforcement language can change without preserving the assumptions in an old automation profile. Record the URL, page title, access date, account stage, and the exact operational conclusion you reached.

If two official pages appear inconsistent, do not select the more convenient interpretation. Pause order transmission and ask the firm to resolve the conflict in writing for your exact account type, platform, strategy behavior, hosting location, and multi-account arrangement.

  • Identify the legal account owner and the exact program name.
  • Classify the account as evaluation, simulated-funded, or live.
  • Check automation, copy trading, news, sizing, drawdown, and device rules separately.
  • Confirm whether local, VPS, VPN, cloud, or remote order transmission is restricted.
  • Save a dated policy snapshot and any written support response.
  • Re-verify after promotion, migration, reset, renewal, or material strategy change.
  1. 1

    Before connection

Read the official policy and map every relevant rule to a machine control.

  2. 2

    Before orders

Run read-only and practice checks, then require a human launch approval.

  3. 3

    During operation

Monitor rejects, duplicate orders, exposure, and rule-version drift.

Is HexTrade a prop firm or evaluation provider?

No. HexTrade is automation and analytics software; HexTrade is not Hex Funded and does not sell evaluations.

A HexTrade connection does not create, expand, or certify permission from a prop firm. The trader remains responsible for the firm's current terms, the account-stage rules, exchange obligations, credentials, strategy behavior, and every order sent. Firm names in this guide identify independent policy publishers and do not imply endorsement or affiliation.

Nothing in this article promises that an account will pass an evaluation, receive funding, qualify for a payout, retain eligibility, or produce a trading return. Automation can repeat mistakes as efficiently as valid instructions, and software availability is not evidence that a strategy is suitable for a firm's risk model.

  • No pass, funding, payout, or performance guarantee.
  • No interpretation of a technical connection as policy approval.
  • No replacement for the firm's current written rules and support guidance.

Stop when permission is unclear

Keep order transmission disabled until the firm confirms the disputed behavior for the exact account and stage.

Frequently asked questions

Does API access mean a prop firm allows automated trading?

No. API access shows that an account can connect technically. The firm's current policy for the exact program, stage, strategy, and deployment method determines permission.

Can I use one copier decision for every account at the same firm?

No. Evaluation, simulated-funded, and live products can have different rules, and accounts may differ by platform, owner, activation date, or written exception.

How often should this rules database be reviewed?

Review immediately before launch and after any stage change, policy update, migration, reset, renewal, or strategy change. This snapshot was verified on 2026-08-30.

Does HexTrade guarantee a pass or payout?

No. HexTrade is not Hex Funded, does not sell evaluations, and does not guarantee passing, funding, payouts, account retention, or trading performance.

Whose policy answer controls?

The prop firm's current official terms and account-specific written guidance control. Platform and software documentation can explain capability but cannot grant firm permission.
