TradingView to TopstepX: rules before routing
TopstepX uses ProjectX technology, but current Topstep guidance says order activity must originate from the trader’s personal device and private servers may not place, relay, or trigger orders. A hosted HexTrade webhook should not be used unless Topstep’s policy changes or Topstep provides applicable written permission.
Topstep publishes API access separately from automation permission. Its API-access article, reviewed August 30, 2026, permits a private server to store data but says it may not place, relay, or trigger orders; Topstep’s Live Funded Account parameters separately prohibit ProjectX API trading in that stage.
Because HexTrade is a hosted execution service, generic ProjectX connectivity does not establish that this route is permitted for Topstep. Use this page to understand the technical naming and the policy boundary, not as instructions to bypass firm rules.
If you use another ProjectX provider whose written terms permit hosted automation, the HexTrade payload platformType is projectx. Verify that provider and account stage independently.
- Read current Topstep policy. Check the official API Access and Live Funded Account parameter pages for your exact stage.
- Identify the execution location. A TradingView alert routed through HexTrade is a hosted/private-server order relay, not activity originating from your personal device.
- Do not infer permission from an API key. Technical credentials and ProjectX compatibility do not authorize a route that the firm rules prohibit.
- Recheck before any future setup. Only proceed if the current policy changes or Topstep gives applicable written permission for the exact workflow.
